A Sanford, North Carolina Owner's Guide to Business Funding Options

Six funding structures, each built for a different kind of expense. Find the bill you are facing, then read the page for the option beside it.

In short

Slateshire Finance arranges six kinds of business funding for owners in Sanford, NC: working capital, term loans, lines of credit, inventory financing, equipment financing and merchant cash advances. This page compares them by the expense each one suits, how repayment works and where the options are easily confused, such as term loan versus line of credit.

Six options, matched to the expense in front of you

Start from the bill instead of the product name. The table pairs each expense with a structure built for it.

Term loan vs line of credit: one sum or a limit to draw on

A term loan pays out once and is repaid on a fixed schedule, so it fits a cost you can name in full today: the fit-out of a second storefront, a partner's share, a building. A line of credit sets a limit you draw on when you need it; you pay for what you use, repay it and draw again.

A rough test: if you could write the exact figure on an invoice now, look at a term loan. If the honest answer is "it depends on the month," look at the line. Some owners hold both, using the line for timing gaps and the term loan for the project.

Equipment lease vs loan: owning it or paying to use it

With an equipment loan you own the machine and the partner holds a lien until it is paid off. With a lease, the lessor owns it and you pay to use it, sometimes with an option to buy at the end. Leases can suit equipment that dates quickly, such as diagnostic scanners or point-of-sale hardware; loans tend to suit machines you will run for years, such as a lift or a zero-turn mower.

Tax treatment of each differs, and that is a question for your accountant rather than for us. The equipment financing page covers what partners ask for on both.

Merchant cash advance vs loan: why the difference matters

With a loan, you borrow and pay back with interest. A merchant cash advance is a purchase of part of your future card sales: the provider pays a lump sum now and collects an agreed total by taking a share of receipts. Because it is not a loan, its cost is stated as a factor rate rather than an interest rate. Compare the total dollar cost of an advance with the total cost of any loan offer over the same period.

Read the total payback amount and the holdback share before comparing an advance with anything else.

How long is a typical business loan for a Sanford, NC owner?

There is no single answer, and no term ranges are quoted on this site because each partner sets its own. The useful rule is to match the term to the life of what the money buys. Payroll and materials are short-lived, so working capital is usually repaid over a short horizon. A building or a business purchase pays off over years, so a term loan for it runs longer.

How long a business loan can be also depends on collateral: equipment and real estate can support longer schedules than an unsecured advance can. Ask every partner for the term, the payment amount and the total repaid, in writing.

How Lee County, NC sectors map onto the six options

County Business Patterns 2023 counts employer establishments by sector, which shows where each structure might apply. Retail Trade had 253 employer establishments in Lee County, NC, and a store holds stock, so inventory financing may apply. Construction had 164, 62.8% of them with fewer than five employees, and payroll can run ahead of payments from jobs. Health Care and Social Assistance had 157, where equipment and insurance timing may matter. Accommodation and Food Services had 140, where kitchen equipment and card sales may matter.

Owners in a particular trade can start from the sector pages instead.

How do a term loan and a line of credit differ in cost?

It depends on the partner's terms and how you use them. A line charges only on what you draw, which helps when needs are uneven; a term loan charges on the full sum from day one. Compare total repayment for the way you will actually use the money.

Can I combine two funding options?

Yes. For example, a term loan for a build-out and a line of credit for monthly timing. Partners will want to see all existing obligations, so list them on the request.

Is a merchant cash advance ever the right choice?

It can be considered when card sales are steady, the need is short and other structures are not available. Compare its total dollar cost with the other options, and read the total payback and the share of daily card sales before deciding.

How long can a business loan be stretched?

Term lengths are set by each partner and depend on the purpose and any collateral. Assets with a long life can support longer schedules. We do not publish typical ranges.
